The upcoming MCD elections in Delhi on April 22nd have affected the schedule of world's largest T20 franchise tournament Indian Premier League (IPL). The 10th edition of VIVO IPL 2017 is all set to begin on April 5 this year. Total 4 matches schedule have been revised owing to elections in Delhi which involved Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rising Pune Supergiants.
As per the current schedule, the match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians on April 22 which was scheduled at 4 pm in Feroze Shah Kotla will now be played at 8 pm in Mumbai. Due to this match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Sunrisers Hyderabad has been preponed to 4 pm on the same day. To compensate the number of match hosted in Feroze Shah Kotla, reverse fixture between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils on May 6th will be hosted in Delhi instead of earlier being played at Mumbai.
Country has been hosting IPL since past 9 years and this kind of changes due to elections is not the first time. Due to general elections in 2009 the entire tournament was shifted to South Africa considering the Security arrangements required. Also in 2014, UAE hosted the first two weeks of IPL Season 7 as schedule was coinciding with the Lok Sabha Elections.
