A fast- paced version of the gentlemen's game with much in question has over the nine seasons pushed the players and their teams as far as possible. While some have reacted with their cricketing abilities, others have given vent to their ire through not all that respectful conduct. Gentlemen, they say, always finish last. Or maybe they don't. But the race to Fair play Trophy, despite not being a blue ribbon event, holds significant esteem and can produce huge brand value. In IPL, it's the job of umpires to award points to each team in every game for fair play.
Fair play Award is an award given during each season of IPL to the team with the best record of Fair play. The winner is decided based on the points given to them by the umpires. After each match, the two on-field umpires and the third umpire, scores the execution of both the teams. A team can be awarded a total of ten points , out of which four points are given on the premise of how the team has adhered to the 'spirit of the game' in the opinion of the umpires. The other three criteria depend on the regard towards the opponent, the laws of cricket and the umpires. Each of these criteria represents 2 points. On the off chance that a team has scored two points in the measure, its performance is considered as 'good', while getting one or zero points demonstrates that its performance is 'normal' or ' awful' individually.
Rules for IPL Fairplay award
The ex-team of the Indian premier league Chennai Super Kings has received the Fair play award six times until they played their last match in IPL season 10. They managed to win this title in the year 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015. However, the team was banned from IPL for not so fair game played by few of their owners. The Kings XI Punjab won the Fair Play award in season 2009. While the Rajasthan Royal, another banned franchise won the title in 2012 season of IPL. The 2016 IPL champions Sunrisers Hyderabad were also the winner to this prestigious award for the last season. This year VIVO IPL entered its 10th edition, with grand opening ceremonies and it's already mid-way of the tournament. With two teams playing IPL for the second season Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions eyes are on the emerging Fair play award winner in 2017.
