Chris Gayle Age, Fitnes and Money in IPL 2018
As Chris gayle age in now 39 and He is not well, is that the one reason to Bargain IPL auction 2018. Many questions and Clear detail about Chris Gayle is bought for low cost is here.

Known fact , primarily he is 39 . He is no longer the same Gayle who demolished the bowlers and was orange cap owner for multiple years in a row . Sadly his bad hamstring and other fitness issues affected his brand value . Especially his loss in form and his inability to pick singles made his future in jeopardy . RCB patiently waited that he would give them the starts just like in past , but he was often left out due to injuries and in some of the matches he took too dot balls , especially 23 old balls for runs in chasing. He keep on becoming burden for them ,as he occupies a overseas spot , failure of him disturbed the balance of the team . So they didn't retained him.

Also it is easier to get a batsman but franchises realised that a team need quality Indian players needed for winning a match than 4 overseas players . So they invested heavily on Indian top order , middleorder players . They didn't went for overseas batsman unless he is a finisher or wicket keeping batsman or a allrounder or a batsman of type mccullum .

Availability of too many overseas options in auction, as well as Gayle being suitable only for opening costed his chances for getting a bid. He was sold to Punjab that too in a last session, as they realised they need a opener as backup . So incidentally he was sold to his base price.

Every team management sees 3 qualities in a player: batting, fielding and bowling. The player got to be good in at least 2 out of those 3 qualities so in order to make an impact in the auction. However the player also get picked if he has 1 quality only, provided he needs to be extraordinary in it.

Coming to Chris Gayle.

We all know how he bowls. It's a delight but for the batsman.

Chris Gayle's fielding is also below par.

The only thing which he has( or had) is extraordinary batting skills.( Not skills to be precise but raw brute power). But had it been 5 years before, every team would have bid for him and who knows he would be the most expensive player. That's because he was at the peak of his career.

But 5 years later, i.e now you find Gayle struggling with his batting . Even if he hasn't lost the touch, he is surely in the downhill part of his career. You can find another example in Ishant Sharma as well. These are the reasons which I think that was behind Gayle Beng unsold. But hey!! KXIP just bought him for 2CR. We will still have a chance to watch the GayleStorm.

Age, Fitness and Money

He is 38 years old and this might be the reason. He may only play for 1 or 2 years more. So spending money on him was not the right thing.

May be later any franchise will buy him.

Instead of Chris Gayle, the RCB bought McCullum. He is 36 years old and 2 yr less than Chris Gayle.

There are a lot of issues with Chris Gayle -

  1. If he doesn't get runs, he becomes worthless and old weight for the team. He doesn't run well between neither he fields well. His off spin is only good for West Indies.
  2. He basically doesn't contribute to anything if he doesn't get runs.
  3. He is not a captainship material either.
  4. I have not seen or heard him motivating other players.
  5. His gym work is very good for power hitting but sucks for other aspect of game. In fact I don't think he does anything about it. Yeah, he is lazy like that.
  6. If he doesn't get runs he becomes very worthless for the team as he is a very full of himself type and selfish type of cricketer.
  7. He is 38 now, what used to work for him in terms of natural fitness, is now his biggest weakness now.
  8. I don't think he does any fitness drills other than his power hitting based gym work which is not acceptable for any team.
  9. He will definitely be picked up the franchisers but at the latter stages and with a lower price as he still better than any average power hitter. But he is no longer worth investing with a lot of money.
